About the Author

Short Overview, 2025

Gerald Perschbacher, LL.D. (Doctor of Laws, hc) is widely respected for his lively presentations and historical plus religious writing.  For decades his editorial accomplishments have been read in more than 30 countries around the globe.  He was editor of an international publication with a peak circulation of 450,000 copies per issue.  He also began several archives and provided sage advice in his quest to preserve prime documents and forgotten reports.

Dr. Perschbacher resides in the St. Louis, Missouri, area, and his ancestors were among the earliest German settlers there in 1832.  His traceable European roots are recorded in old official documents dating to the late 1300s in what is now the area of Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany.  He made five intense research trips to Germany and France in his quest for archival facts.  He maintains contact with German researchers internationally.

He preserves his findings by entwining discoveries in the written form of historical novels.  “To date I have covered my ancestral European period from the fall of the Roman Empire to the departure to America,” says Perschbacher, who is a stickler for facts.

“This involves a detailed study of each era for accuracy in which my ancestors lived. It also involves unearthing nuances about specific ancestors, their challenges and their impact on life.  In so doing, I have brought specific forgotten bits of history to light for readers who may find the revelations enlightening for their own ancestry.”

Some years ago he challenged archivists in Frankfurt-am-Main to search their records for insights relating to his family’s ancestral impact on that area of the old Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation.  “In the 1600s two Perschbacher brothers settled in Frankfurt as a duo of medical doctor and apothecary.  They administered their professions from Der Grosse Engel in the prestigious Roemerberg square.  The next generations rose to important positions as legal authorities and administrators.”  He adds that nearly a dozen pages of details were compiled to advance his research, and that officials were pleased to spend the effort since, in their words, “We discovered things we never knew about Frankfurt’s history.”

More of Perschbacher’s European family discoveries became evident in relation to Dr. Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation, the victory of the Old Swiss Confederacy in 1495 beginning its move away from the Empire, the march with Napoleon to Russia, and many more surprises.

“Discoveries and learning are virtues,” concludes Perschbacher.  “And many more facts continued to be added in succeeding months.”  His ancestry in the New World resulted in connections with the California Gold Rush and John A. Sutter, activities in the American Civil War, west-coast ship building, communications with inventor Thomas Edison, and the fact that one branch of Perschbachers even became cowboys.  A Perschbacher mansion and its owners survived the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake.

“There was even one German ancestor in my mother’s lineage who fought for the American Colonies at the 1781 Battle of Yorktown,” he adds, “and, to date, this is the sole note of fame in her European lineage.”

Discoveries

International Connections

Author Perschbacher has an intense appreciation for his family’s impact on him.  And an appreciation for story telling and advances in family achievements soon led him to the far deeper past, which he references in his exciting book, THEY’RE STILL WITH YOU!

Dr. Perschbacher has a global view.  It has been sharpened by more than 25 years of intense research in documents old and new spanning more than two continents.  Much of that relates to the migration of people from Europe to the Americas – and beyond.

His Perschbacher “roots” have been documented back to the late 1300s.  “What I find most interesting is the depth of discovery and sharing that is traded between diehard researchers, many of whom specialize in a select area of the world and dig deeply into ancient documents in very old archives to unleash lost facts.”   He adds that “it’s been a true pleasure of discovery.  My international friendships have developed with dozens of historians who stalk the truth and celebrate with every fresh discovery.”

His research includes online investigation, as in the case of tracking an ancestor who had been active with the Order of Knights of Malta (Knights Johanniter).  So he contacted “Order” archivists on the island of Malta.  This resulted in the discovery of documentation dating to the 1500s.

Dr. Perschbacher chooses to do more than just discover lost facts.  After 25 years of dedicated gleaning and compilation on the subject, he is in the final stages of completing a series of historical novels tracing the rise of civilizations from the collapse of the Roman empire (circa 250 A.D.) to the successful transplant of Europeans in the Americas.  “I already have written 800,000 words on their advances since that collapse, with probably another 200,000 words yet to be written to complete the series.”  He adds, “I think there is a lot of ‘Big Screen’ theatrical excitement that may result.”
