About the Book

Live An Exciting Life!

Regardless of your age and status YOU can live an exciting life!

Some people do it by exploring, traveling and collecting – just to mention a few options.  And if you cannot do any of these, then you may still be able to experience thrills and satisfaction by discovering the exploits of others via books, video, articles and story telling.  If you have eyes to see or ears to hear and the ability to understand human nature, then YOU are a prime candidate to lead an exciting life.

What makes life exciting for most people is DISCOVERY followed quickly by SURPRISE and, quite naturally, KNOWLEDGE toward WISDOM (which leads to good judgement).

Quite often we share in the exploits, experience, advice and ideas of others and aim to incorporate their experiences and knowledge as a magical elixir for daily living.  But there is no magic involved.  Life is a natural process of learning, assessing and incorporating the virtues and experiences of others into our daily lives and way of thinking.

This is the premise of my book, THEY’RE STILL WITH YOU! The Impact of Family and Fiends.

Think about it!  You have genetic elements from some and adapted traits from others.  Simply stated, your life has been impacted by OBSERVATIONS, RECOLLECTIONS, PROPENSITIES (learned or inherited), REVELATIONS, even PROBLEM SOLVING and avoidance of steps leading to despair.

Take inventory of your present lifestyle.  WHO influenced you the most in recent years?  In your early years?  When you faced a serious problem?  When you were challenged to take a stance?

Indeed, those who raised us and befriended us left indelible marks on our way of thinking and acting.  My book covers those topics with keen experiences that still guide my life today.  YOU can say the same, when you think about it.  I hope you are graced by the virtues conveyed through the book I just mentioned.  So in special ways, I trust that what I have written will resonate in your life and thoughts with the result of good times ahead – for YOU and those near you!

Like a good book, the “pages of your life” are flipping to the past.  May others now and in the future say YOU were a good and lasting influence on them!

More Than Just A Cover

The cover of my book has its own story.

The picture was taken in a bygone era between World War II and the aftermath of the Cuban Missile Crisis.  What I knew about the war came trough Dad and others who were in military service for our country.  What I learned about the Cuban situation was firsthand newsreports as I was nearing grade school graduation.

Then a dire event transpired on a Friday.  Our principal came marching into the classroom with a plug-in desktop radio under his arm.  He wanted us to hear history in the making.  And that we did!  President Kennedy had been shot! That tragic event seemed to make time stand still as television news networks devoted most of their broadcast time to related events as they happened on “live TV.”

The experience taught that life is fragile.  Peace can be fleeting.  Negotiation and wise resilience can be elements of survival.  The nation avoided another world war and survived the tragic loss of a beloved President who held his ground when war seemed inevitable.

I must have been age five when my Dad snapped his handy camera loaded with typical black-and-white film.  For him, the pool-moment was worth capturing as we splashed in our backyard.  I still recall his grin while he sat in a lawn chair watching my brother (seen behind me) and our neighbor kids.  Our cocker-spaniel Kippy even seemed to smile at the splashes.  Dad’s hand-made fence reminds me of his ability as a carpenter to build or fix just about anything.  Truly, photos can be frozen glimpses of the past.

What we take FROM our experiences and the wisdom DERIVED from the sage insight of others have impact that can last into eternity.

One more memory:  Paul is the big kid in back.  He and I were members of the same congregation when I was small and later in his twilight years.  He often came to the Bible class I taught over many years.  He recalled me as the little kid in the pool and marveled how I later became an author and active public speaker nationwide and beyond.  “Who would have guessed,” he admitted.

Maybe you know someone like Paul who shared past memories with you, perhaps even adding more information about people and events from a different perspective that you had not realized.  Truly, fond memories that shaped us became integral parts of our mental growth.
